Voxel Tycoon is a game about mining, transportation and building factories across randomly generated voxel landscapes. As you invest in research in laboratories you will unlock more technologies that improve aspects of the game such as faster vehicles that can transport more, larger warehouses with further reach and factory buildings to create more complicated products. These products need to be transported to business located in settlements across the map and provide income which increases on demand. Passenger transport forms part of the gameplay as it helps encourage settlement growth.
The natural resources in the game are located in regions across the map and the resource deposits are finite. New regions need to be unlocked with money to access additional resource deposits. When resource deposits are depleted, you are forced to expand into new regions to gather more resources.
Trains are a popular way to connect these regions together, the logistics of train signalling and collisions require you to plan your transport network, hours of gameplay can be had planning this out.
Ultimately these interconnected goals are what makes the game so addictive and provides replayability. The continual need to expand, upgrade and grow keeps the game very engaging.
Beyond the game and gameplay itself, the user interface design is extremely flexible, something that is not easy to create. The functionality of many windows that can be moved around and also targeted when performing actions like making route selections and copying vehicles is very intuitive. Personally the attraction to this game really does come from this user interface experience.
