Research

- Electric trains are available once you research Electric Engine in the research tree
- They require train tracks to be electrified, upgrading the train tracks is explained below
Upgrade Rails

- To upgrade the rails access the Rails menu and select Electrification

- Highlight the existing track with the mouse and then click it to electrify it
- The cost required will be shown

- You can see in the screenshot above the lower track is now electrified
- You will need to repeat every section of track between here and your destination(s)
- Pay particular attention to the small sections of track, if you miss any an electric train will not be able to travel
- Check the I'm Lost / No Power article that has examples of missing track
- NOTE: Platforms on new stations are not electrified

- Laying new rail can be electrified as you proceed
- Select the Electrification option
- You can choose for it to be on the left or right side
